Plot

Manny and Ellie are expecting their first child, while Diego feels like he is losing his predatory nature and considers leaving the herd. Sid feels lonely and adopts three dinosaur eggs he finds in an underground cavern. The eggs hatch into baby Tyrannosaurus rexes, who accept Sid as their mother. However, their real mother soon arrives and takes them away along with Sid. Manny, Ellie, Diego, Crash, and Eddie follow them into the cavern and discover a vast jungle populated by dinosaurs that survived extinction.

They are rescued from a dinosaur attack by Buck, a one-eyed weasel who hunts dinosaurs. He agrees to help them find Sid and leads them to Lava Falls, where he believes Sid is being held by Momma T-Rex. Along the way, they encounter various dangers and obstacles, such as carnivorous plants, flying reptiles, and a massive albino Baryonyx named Rudy, who is Buck's archenemy. Meanwhile, Scrat, a saber-toothed squirrel obsessed with acorns, meets Scratte, a female saber-toothed squirrel who competes with him for an acorn.

At Lava Falls, the herd manages to rescue Sid from Momma T-Rex just as she is about to feed him to her babies. However, they also trigger an eruption that endangers the entire jungle. As they flee from the lava, Buck stays behind to confront Rudy and sacrifices his beloved knife to knock him off a cliff. The herd reaches a geyser field that propels them back to the ice age world. Buck decides to stay behind in the dinosaur world and bids farewell to his friends.

Manny and Ellie welcome their daughter Peaches into the world and celebrate with their friends. Diego decides to stay with the herd and rekindles his friendship with Manny. Sid is reunited with his family but quickly abandons them when they try to eat him. Scrat chooses Scratte over his acorn but she double-crosses him and takes both for herself. Scrat then falls into a crack in the ice that leads him to the dinosaur world where he encounters Rudy.
